Herbal Highlights & Research
Horsetail (Equisetum arvense)
• Horsetail is one of the richest plant sources of bioavailable silica, a mineral important for connective tissue integrity, nail strength, and skin structure
• In a human clinical study, a nail lacquer containing Equisetum arvense extract significantly improved nail hardness, thickness, and overall nail condition after 28 days of use, supporting its traditional use for brittle or fragile nails
https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC4041289/
Traditionally used: Brewed into teas and infused into oils to support nails, skin, hair, and connective tissue.
Calendula (Calendula officinalis)
• Demonstrates anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, and tissue-repair activity in both animal studies and clinical research
• A systematic review found calendula preparations supported faster wound healing, increased granulation tissue formation, and improved resolution of inflammation
https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/31145533/
Traditionally used: Applied topically to cracked, irritated, or damaged skin to support healing.
Yarrow (Achillea millefolium)
• Exhibits anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, and astringent properties that support tissue tone and skin repair
• Wound-healing studies show Achillea millefolium supports faster closure and increased collagen deposition
https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC10315885/
Traditionally used: Applied to minor wounds and damaged skin to help restore tissue integrity.
Nettle (Urtica dioica)
• Naturally rich in minerals including silica, calcium, and magnesium, which are important for nail strength and skin health
• In vivo and topical studies show Urtica dioica extracts support wound closure, reduced inflammation, and improved cell migration during tissue repair
https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC8540079/
Traditionally used: Used internally and externally to support nails, skin, and connective tissue.
Castor Oil (Ricinus communis)
• High in ricinoleic acid, which helps soften hardened cuticles and support the skin barrier at the nail base
• Its fatty acid profile helps reduce dryness and protect against cracking
https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC9231528/
Traditionally used: Applied to nails and cuticles to condition, soften, and protect.
Jojoba Oil (Simmondsia chinensis)
• Structurally similar to human sebum, allowing it to absorb easily without clogging pores
• Demonstrates anti-inflammatory effects and improves skin hydration while helping carry herbal compounds into the skin
https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC8197201/
Traditionally used: Applied as a balancing oil for dry, sensitive, or overworked skin.
Cuticles take more abuse than we tend to notice. Frequent handwashing, cold weather, soil, friction, and daily work gradually strip away the oils that protect the skin at the nail base. Over time, this often shows up as dryness, irritation, hangnails, and nails that are more prone to splitting or poor growth.
This formula was built around supporting the tissue where the nail actually forms. Jojoba and castor oils provide barrier protection and lasting moisture without feeling heavy, while horsetail, calendula, yarrow, and nettle are slowly infused for their mineral content and traditional use in connective tissue and skin repair. The calendula is grown here, and the horsetail, nettle, and yarrow are responsibly foraged and processed in small batches before infusion.
This oil is applied at the nail base and worked into the surrounding skin, where cuticles tend to dry out first. With regular use, it supports better-conditioned cuticles and nails without relying on waxes or synthetic coatings. It absorbs quickly, does not leave a greasy finish, and fits easily into a simple, practical routine.
How to Use
Apply a small drop to each cuticle once or twice daily. Massage gently into the cuticle and nail base until absorbed. Especially useful after handwashing or before bed.
